The ALUNA Jazz Band was formed in september 1991 in Merano by Thomas Hölzl ( drums ) Kurt Pixner ( guitar ), Umberto Carrescia ( piano ) e Klaus Janek ( bass ).
The name has an antropological origin and comes from the Sierra Marta in Colombia. The repertoire contained jazz and fusion standards which was played with a particular loaded rythmn. In 1992 in some concerts was added a trumpet ( Carlos Alverado ).and occasionally a trombone ( Gigi )and a violin.(Marcello Fera ) The activity of the group began in 91 ín Austria and went through the next 3 years with concerts more or less in the surroundings of Merano. At that time the band had a considerable success and great performances with various artists from the Merano music scene. Only bad organization and personal changes brought the group to the end. First left Thomas and was replaced by the Nikki de Bertoldi ( from the well known Collettivo Musicale ) and than Klaus who was replaced by Max Carbone ( also Collettivo Musicale )
With this new formation we did some great performances among others at the Jazz´n 94 at the Theater in der Altstadt in Merano with other national and international artists.
From this band arised some af the most interesting groups from the city who are the SERAFINIAN QUARTETT ( a vocal quartet founded by Umberto, Klaus and Marcello Fera on violin ) and of course MIND THE GAB.
Klaus Janek actually lives in Berlin and plays all the styles and types of music and is involved in many projects.
